Next Chapter Book Club

Next Chapter Book Club is a community-based book club program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, regardless of their reading or ability level.  Two facilitators will assist participants as they read and discuss the pre-selected book.  Books and materials will be provided.

Hanover in the Revolutionary War

The True Story of Eliza Monroe Hay 

Saturday, Jan. 10, 1:00 - 2:00pm

Ages 13 – Adults. Eliza Monroe Hay, the eldest child of President James Monroe, lived in the White House during her father's presidency, cared for her mother, father, and husband during their illnesses and ultimate deaths, yet died penniless in France at the age of 53.  Through extensive research on both sides of the Atlantic, Barbara VornDick, author and coordinator of The Bringing Eliza Home Project, has uncovered the true story of Eliza Monroe Hay and will discuss her findings, which are published in Eliza's True Story: The First Biography of President Monroe's Eldest Daughter as well as efforts to repatriate Eliza's remains to the United States.
